Greek Market OverviewWith the state power company under a new, pro-renewables leadership and a new Ministry of Energy with active policies and a strong to decarbonise the energy system, Greece is well under way to exceed its renewable energy targets for 2020 and beyond. Early in 2019 it submitted its long-term Energy and Climate Plan, placing renewable energy sources up to a targeted 32% (5% over its obligated target) of final consumption while including an estimate of upcoming RES investments up to EUR 35 bn. |

With vast potential for both wind and solar capacity, everyone is looking to Greece as the newest hotspot for investing in renewables, but financing projects still causes some of the main challenges.
E-Hellas will tackle these issues with a panel discussion bringing together perspectives from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, national and international investors as well as the Ministry to discuss key requirements of PPAs for ensuring bankability of projects, support available for international investors and successful structures for financing auction winners.

As a sunny, archipelagic country made up of over 3000 islands, Greece has enormous potential for both wind and solar projects as well as a strong need for energy independence on islands that are not connected to the main grid. Day two of the summit will focus on these island issues, including; successful case studies in mini-grid development, analysing storage challenges and new technologies and new developments in domestic interconnections.
